I've been very happy for the past few weeks. I just graduated and was offered a job instantly at the Science Center of Japan. Then, Shingo-chan gets into Jyuban High. He studied really hard for the entrance test. I should be happy about this, so why aren't I? Since Mamo-chan went to America, he never called or wrote or visited me. What exactly has he been doing for the past 4 years? I feel so lonely inside. Ami is around but she's busy. Busy busy busy, that's all I ever hear! Naru-chan is OUT of the question:She actually got merried to Umino. I thought they'd never last, but they did. The others all have their own things to do. Only Okinu-san is my friend at the center. Okinu is around 3 years my senoir, and she's also in charge of the chemistry department, where I work. Me? I'm just a plain old scientist. Lately, Seiya has been the only one who has been very nice to me. But he always questions the ring Mamo-chan gave me. "Why do you always wear such cheap things? A woman of your standing should wear a real ring," Seiya-kun once said. I get very hurt when he says that, since the ring means so much to me. "It doesn't matter if it is cheap; I still like it," I always tell him, but does he get the message into his head? NO! he continues. "You wear this ring because your boyfriend gave it to you? What has this Mamoru done to get a beautiful woman? They say opposites attract, you know," I was so angry at Seiya. The nerve of him saying my Mamo-chan's name in such a mocking manner. In that phrase, he thought that Mamo-chan was the closest thing to the huncback of Notre Dame. To me, it definitely was that way. "I suppose you can get me a better ring?" I asked, challenging him. "Of course. I'll show you that Kou Seiya can do anything a woman wants," he was so arrogant. Sadly, it was true. Seiya practically had power to do anything anybody wanted.. He came back with a ring that day. "Usagi, I told you I'll get you a ring, and that's what I did." then he kneeled down and asked, "My dear Usako, will you be my girlfriend?" I was so shocked! How dare Seiya called me Usako! Nobody but Mamo-chan called me Usako! I slapped him real good. But then, it would be stupid to reject a beautiful ring.So I took the ring away when he was recovering from the monster slap I gave him. You don't become a senshi without learning something! ------------------------------------------------------------------- The next day at work, I got a surprise. Okinu-san came in when I was checking something. She said, "Usagi, I have considered your application to work with a colleague. However, would you mind a male colleague?" I didn't care at that time. I just went ahead and kissed Okinu on the cheek. Who cared if the person was a male or female? I was going to get a partner and that was all it mattered. "Since you're so happy, I guess both of you can start today," Okinu made a sign and a man walked in. Wen we looked into each other's eye, my heart knew it was my Mamo-chan! He was just as surprised as I was. "Usako?" "Mamo-chan?" "You know each other?" Okinu asked. "We were friends," Mamo-chan said. "All the better! Think of this as a reunion!" Okinu-san said and went off. I looked into his eyes. They were the same. There was one thing different about him. Then I realised Mamo-chan was wearing spectacles! That just made him cuter, actually. He was surprised at something, but i didn't know what. I checked myelf to be on the safe side. "Where are your odangos?" he asked. It's true. I've never worn them after finishing High School. I thought they were childish and I had no time to fix my hair. I just smiled. None of us said anything. Suddenly he hugged me. He whispered, "Usako, my dear Usako," into my ear. I just whispered, "Mamo-chan," and we stood there in the middle of the lab, not wanting to let go of him, for now. He was back, and that was all that mattered to me.
